Known Bot Filter

The Known Bot FilterClosed The Known Bot Filter screens your site's request data. By default, it filters out requests from known non-malicious web crawlers like Google, Bing, Facebook, Snapchat, Yandex, and others, before it analyzes your site to calculate conversion insights. is a feature on the Conversion Insights dashboard.

The Conversion Insights dashboard displays statistics about your site's conversions, based on data for the traffic to your site. The Known Bot Filter gives you a choice on which traffic data you want included in those calculations. By default, the filter excludes the data from known non-malicious web crawlers like Google, Bing, Facebook, Snapchat, Yandex, and others.

In our analysis, known bots bounce at nearly 100% and rarely result in a conversion. Including the data for known bots can skew the calculations, giving you misleading conversion insights and under-counting your conversion rate. Screening out data from bots results in much more accurate conversion statistics.

Alternatively, the Known bot drop-down allows you to include the data for all the traffic on your site, or to include only data regarding non-malicious crawler traffic. These options allow you to see what proportion of the traffic on your site consists of non-malicious web crawlers, and to compare how your conversion statistics look when the crawler traffic is excluded, included, or used alone in your conversion statistics.

Yottaa is able to exclude the data about known bots because they self-identify as bots in the User Agent string. Using the default Known bots excluded setting, Yottaa identifies a bot and excludes its data from traffic statistics on the Conversion Insights dashboard if the bot's User Agent includes any of the following values:

  • case CLOUD

  • case ROBOT

  • case ROBOT_MOBILE

  • case ROBOT_IMITATOR

  • case HACKER

  • case UNKNOWN

  • case UNCLASSIFIED

The filter has no effect on page load time.
